Small Business Center Receives Castle Bank Grant

[Friday, January 31, 2014]

The Illinois Small Business Development Center (ISBDC) at McHenry County College received a $17,500 grant from Castle Bank that will help to provide additional services and educational seminars to small business owners and entrepreneurs. The funding came through the Friends of MCC Foundation.

McHenry County College has announced that Castle Bank, an Illinois-based division of First National Bank of Omaha, has committed additional funds to help the Illinois Small Business Development Center sustain its mission of providing services to help small business owners and entrepreneurs drive the local economy forward.

"These funds will go a long way in providing additional services to ISBDC clients and more support for small businesses in our community," said Kristi Patterson, Manager of Illinois Small Business Development Center at MCC.

The Castle Bank funding came through the Community Reinvestment Act, which encourages banks to invest a portion of their capital bank into their communities. In addition to McHenry County College, Castle Bank helps support small-business center operations at Elgin Community College, Kishwaukee College, Waubonsee Community College as well as the Fox Valley Entrepreneurship Center. In 2013, such donations totaled about $110,000.

"Castle Bank is committed to helping the businesses in our communities succeed," said Melissa Stocker, business banker at Castle Bank. "We're proud to be able to provide funding toward programs that support new business ventures and existing businesses. It’s exciting to partner with an organization such as the MCC Shah Business Center, as we share that same commitment to the success of our small business community."

The Illinois Small Business Development Center at McHenry County College is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small business Administration and the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
