Timeline What you should be doing

Your first semester

  • Adjust to the program, concentrate on doing well in your classes, find out who your department chair is.
  • Learn about jobs related to your career program by talking to faculty in your program, reading related career information, or seeking support services.
Around the middle of your program
Your last semester
  • Have your resume draft reviewed in Career Services, and make final changes.  Be sure you know how to write a cover letter.
  • Secure references from people who will speak highly of you.
  • Start to look for job leads, network with faculty and others about possible job leads.  Tell everyone you know what kind of job you’re looking for.
  • Organize your job search plan, attend job fairs when available.
  • Consult your program coordinator and the Career Services office if you want additional help with your job search.
