Articulate your information need:

The first step in creating an effective search is translating your need for information into a specific question or statement.  Think about your purpose for seeking out information and what questions you need to answer.  For example, a topic like cell phone safety might translate into the following questions:  Do cell phones cause car accidents?  How many accidents were caused by people using their cell phones while driving?  Do any states have laws prohibiting the use of cell phones while driving?
