Reference Services

The Reference Librarians, located at the Reference Desk, are happy to assist with your research needs. Such needs may include getting general research advice, learning how to use a research tool, finding a specific piece of information, etc. Simple reference questions are welcome by phone (815-455-8762) from MCC students, employees, and residents of the College district. For more involved questions, however, it is better to meet with a librarian in person. Reference service is also available to MCC students via email at our Ask a Librarian link.

Library Resources
The Reference Department contains many types of research materials, including reference books, research databases, an online catalog to our collection of books and non-print materials, and Internet access for research purposes. Many excellent resources are available from our main library web page. Library card holders may obtain database passwords at the Reference Desk.

Information Literacy Program
The Library's Information Literacy Program is designed to provide students with the skills they need to find, evaluate and use information effectively.  Through  information literacy instruction and information literacy assignments, students will have an opportunity to learn and apply these skills during their course of study at MCC.  The classroom faculty play a vital role in insuring that all students are competent users of information.  As a result, the librarians  want to make sure classroom faculty have the  resources and support needed to successfully integrate information literacy into their curricula.  Resources for faculty are available from the Information Literacy Program page.
