Guidelines For Submitting Library Reserves

  • Reserve materials should be submitted by August 15th for the fall semester and by January 5th for the spring semester. Reserves are processed in the order in which they are received. Please allow at least 3 business days for normal processing, but longer if turned in after the deadlines.
  • Complete information is needed for placing materials on reserve to expedite the process: instructor name, department, course ID (ie ENG 151), type of reserve (Room-use, Two-day, etc.), length of time on reserve. The necessary form is available at the circulation desk or online.
  • Instructor must have an MCC library card before placing anything on reserve.
  • Library owned materials can be placed on reserve rather quickly, if not checked out. Personal copies are processed with a call number, barcode, and a pocket.
  • All reserve material is entered into the library database, under the card catalog "Reserve" module. This is how they can be accessed by students and faculty.
  • Photocopies not previously on reserve (that meet the copyright requirements) are also assigned a reserve call number, barcoded, labeled and pocketed, then entered into the reserve module of the card catalog. Therefore, all loose leaf materials should be secured in a binder or folder.
  • If an article is copied from a book currently in print, it is best to put the whole book on reserve.
  • Personal copies are all returned at the end of each semester.
  • Interlibrary loan books or videos from a rental source will not be placed on reserve at MCC.
  • Textbooks which students are required to buy are not placed on reserve.
  • Only personal or MCC purchased non-print materials, such as audio's or videos will be placed on reserve. No bootleg or pirated copies will be accepted.
  • Sample exams, quizzes, answer sheets, class notes, or course syllabi from faculty will be placed on reserve for only the pertinent semester. Faculty must obtain students' permission, before placing samples of student work on reserve.
  • MCC Library will accept ONE copy of an article or part of a book for one semester. For courses with multiple sections, the library will place an additional copy on reserve. If the library owns the journal or the book, we will place this on reserve rather than the photocopy.
