Library Resources and Services for Remote Users

• The McHenry County College Library Catalog as well as several periodical databases are available from any computer on or off campus using an Internet connection. They may be accessed through the Library web page at www.mchenry.edu/library/.
• Search the Library Catalog for books and audiovisual materials owned by the library and check on their availability.
• Library patrons with a valid McHenry County College Library card and personal identification number (PIN) may access through the Library Catalog a section called User Services that allow patrons to interact with the system in a variety of ways. The features included are:

  1. User Status inquiry (requires an MCC library card and PIN)
  This allows you to check to see what items you have checked out, when the items are due, if you have any overdues, etc.

  2. Renew Materials (requires an MCC library card and PIN)
  This allows you to renew your own materials on or before the date the items are due, if there are no holds on the items or restrictions on your account.

• Several periodical database vendors are available to remote users and are accessible through a link from the MCC library web page. They include:
  • FirstSearch
  • EBSCO
  • ProQuest

  Access to the databases provided by these vendors requires an authorization and password. The reference librarians can provide this information. If you need passwords or help using the various databases, please contact a reference librarian at (815)-455-8762.
