Interlibrary
Loan
-
Information,
policies and procedure
Interlibrary
Loan augments the McHenry County College library collection by allowing
patrons from our library to borrow materials held at other libraries.
The MCC library collection should be utilized first before initiating
Interlibrary Loan requests.
-
What
types of materials may I request? What are the Request limits?
Interlibrary Loan is available to students, faculty, staff, and community
members with an MCC library card. Books, periodical articles, and
tapes may be requested through this service. Note: Patrons with overdue
items or fines will be ineligible to receive Interlibrary Loan materials
until their accounts have been cleared and materials returned.
Request limits are as follows:
-
Books:
Maximum of five out at a time
-
Periodical
Articles: Five request per research topic
-
Maximum
Article Length: 20 pages
-
Faculty/Staff:
No limits
- How do I submit
a request?
To submit a request, pick up form at the Circulation Desk. There are
separate forms for books and periodical articles. The borrower must
fill out the proper form, including all bibliographic and verification
information. A reference librarian is available to assist if you need
help. Please return the form to a circulation staff member.
- How
long before I will receive the material?
On the average, it takes about two weeks to receive requested material
from the leading library.
- How am I notified
the item(s) have arrived?
A library staff member will notify you by phone when the item you requested
arrive. You may then come and pick the item up at the Circulation desk
during library hours. Periodical articles are photocopied and sent directly
to your home unless otherwise specified.
- Will there be
any fee for the service:
There is generally no fee for Interlibrary Loans. Occasionally, if the
material had to be sent from out of state, or from a private library,
a fee will be rendered. We will try to notify you ahead of time if there
is. Usually, fees do not exceed ten dollars per item.
- How long may
I keep the item? May I renew it?
Loan periods for books and videos vary depending on the lending library.
If you need to renew please notify the Circulation Desk prior to the
due date. We will ask the lending library to extend the loan period.
Renewals are granted by the lending library - not MCC.
- What are the
overdue and replacement fines?
The borrower is responsible for the prompt return of all Interlibrary
Loan material. Items returned after the due date accrue a $3 flat fine.
The borrower is also responsible for the safety and care of materials
and any costs for damages or loss of materials. Due dates and replacement
cost are determined by the lending library.
