Guin Mathey

Guin received her Master's in Media and Culture from Northern Illinois University and has been teaching since 2002 in the field. She places a pragmatic emphasis in her courses to enable real-world applications of journalism curriculum. She also employs several hands-on projects in her classes to ensure students get a practical sample of positions in the world of media. Journalistic influence on society is also a core principle she teaches. Students are responsible to investigate their own perspectives on how media consumption influences their life.

Guin is also an American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) coach and a member of the DeKalb County Volunteer program. She especially values time with her family and hopes to continue her education when her children are older.

Guin believes that "an education is earned as much as it is learned. You usually have to work hard for anything worth having and knowledge is no exception."
