Revisiting the Evidence from 9/11Submitted By tkoronkiewicz@mchenry.edu 9/14/2009 9:22:30 AM Phone: x8772 911: Revisiting Evidence on the Towers Speakers: James Campbell, B.A. of Divinity, University of Chicago and Alex Sistko, MCC Student of Mathematics Moderator: Dr. Steve Young, Philosophy Instructor The destruction of the towers on 911 caused tragic pain and suffering. Everyone agrees it changed our world and resulted in even greater losses in blood and treasure. There is a growing number who believe the official investigation failed to properly examine the evidence. Some New York City residents and victims demand an independent commission with subpoena power to conduct a fact-driven investigation. James Campbell and Alex Sistko will discuss whether a new investigation is warranted or whether we should accept the official version and move on to other issues. Women's History Month CommitteeSubmitted By kpfister@mchenry.edu 9/9/2009 9:15:13 AM Phone: 7529 Greetings, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to another year of planning for March's Women's History Month events! As we head into our fourth year of official reinstatement of WHM committee activity, we can say with a lot of enthusiasm that we keep meeting with more success! We have received so much positive feedback and so many exciting responses from colleagues and students that we enter this year's planning with even more passion and fervor than in past years. Because of the activities of this committee last year, we were able to add more films to the Women's Film Collection housed in our library, give away a scholarship to a deserving student, and initiate a successful Women's Care Faire which engaged other outside groups to hold sessions, screenings, and provide information to our students and staff. Did we tell you we have a blast working with everyone to put all of the program's together? Consider joining this dynamic and creative committee! The more folks we have involved, the stronger our programs become and the ideas keep getting better and better. The Women's History Month committee is co-chaired by Katherine Midday and Kathrine Pfister with a fabulous committee made up of MCC employees and representatives from women's groups across the county. First meeting of the committee early October - if interested in joining us - email kpfister@mchenry.edu Department/Division NewsCATERING MENU REVISIONSSubmitted By sjohnsto@mchenry.edu 9/25/2009 11:53:22 AM Phone: ext. 8793 New Catering Revisions are now in effect. Revised menu is posted on the mchenry.edu web site. The menu also now posted on Inside MCC under the drop-down menu!!! This is our basic standard menu, and does not include everything, so if you don't find the selection you desire, we will work with you to meet your needs. Be sure to note that some of the prices have changed. As always, if you have questions please give me a call. CATERING POLICIES & REMINDERSSubmitted By sjohnsto@mchenry.edu 9/2/2009 9:20:24 AM Phone: ext. 8793 As you all are aware, we are all very busy with the new customer volumes. We also need to be aware of the policies and procedures for catering provided by the Food Services Department. WHAT ARE THE PROCEDURES FOR REQUESTING CATERING SERVICES?? Because of the need to order food, linens and supplies, and to arrange staffing to meet your catering needs, we need as much advance notice as possible (preferrably 10 days) to assure that we have everything that you need. Last minute requests may not be possible. HOW DO I ORDER CATERING??? There is a form to request catering services on INSIDE MCC under the drop down menu in the FORMS section under Food Services. Complete the form and e-mail it to BOTH Sandra Johnston and Jackie Covelli. Be sure to include date, time, location, number attending, menu and account number to be charged. We do all the billing at the end of the month and must have this information. WHERE DO I FIND THE CATERING MENU??? The menu is located on the main MCC website under the tab at the top for BUSINESS, then click on CONFERENCE CENTER, then half way down the page is a tab to DOWNLOAD CATERING MENU. Be aware that some of the prices on the menu have changed and are in the process of getting changed on the menu, so check with us in advance for any price variations. Also, there are specific policies for events on campus with food that are not provided by Food Services- so you MUST check with us for those events to be sure that you are in compliance with all health department requirements. As always, we want to meet your need and will help you in any way that we can to assure that your events are the best that they can be. Don't hesitate to call with questions or assistance in planning your events. CATERING POLICIES & REMINDERSSubmitted By mkeehn@mchenry.edu 9/9/2009 9:13:08 AM Phone: x7528 Recently Sandra Johnston submitted an article regarding Catering Policies & Reminders for the College. I have added the "Catering Policy" to InsideMCC in two locations for easy reference. It is located under Quick Links and under Policies & Procedures.

MCC Promise - A community's responseSubmitted By kpfister@mchenry.edu 9/29/2009 4:23:18 PM Phone: 479-7529 With the recent MCC internal announcement from Dr. Tyree and the larger community response generated by the Northwest Herald on the MCC Promise program, it would have seemed that the MCC Promise program had lived its day in the spot-light only to fade-away. Not so. The Foundation is pleased to announce that both the internal and external communities are getting behind this program... in generous and creative ways. Now you can jump in and show your support as well!! Businesses in the community are putting together promotions and services that will GIVE BACK to the community by supporting the MCC Promise program. And they are doing so in a true grass-roots, community-minded style! You too can support the MCC Promise by going to these businesses and by spreading the word about these opportunities. Two very exciting opportunities are going on right now. "Portraits for Promise" and "Pizza for Promise" are two events in which a portion of the sales will be donated directly to the MCC Promise program. The attached flyers have more specific information. Please pass them on to family, friends and business associates. With the holidays coming up... who doesn't want to have a great portrait of the family for the season. And if you eat pizza - why not do it on a Monday night? And if you have a suggestion on an event for Promise... let us know!!

As an organization, weTRaIN is working to give local companies a better understanding of what their local community college can do for them and the power of the statewide network. The weTRaIN website serves as a resource for training information and a gateway to the participating colleges. An interactive map makes it easy to identify the closest weTRaIN service provider. Giant Schnauzer & Westie Looking for New HomeSubmitted By jcase@mchenry.edu 9/24/2009 4:36:49 PM Phone: 8901 I have a female Giant Schnauzer, spayed, 75 lbs., all black, with excellent temperment that I need to find a loving home for. She is great with people and kids (only because of her size....she might not be good for small toddlers). HOWEVER, she is a former show dog and is not good with other dogs...particularly other females. She has a companion Westie, a male, that she is fine with, so male dogs would probably not be a problem. Her name is Koko...she is 5 years old (in Dec) and in good health. Giant Schnauzers are the largest of the Schnauzer breed, which consists of the Miniature, the Standard, and the Giant. Koko has both her American and Intl. Championships and is a beautiful example of the breed. I'm looking to give her to a loving owner & home, where she can enjoy plenty of love, exercise and attention....she loves attention, but then she's a "show" dog, right! My second dog is a West Highland White terrier, Max, age 8, who weighs about 20 lbs., is neutered and a sharp, loving little dog. He loves to chase toys, play tug of war and is good with people, kids...anyone who will give him a treat. He is a lap dog and likes to cuddle or have his belly rubbed. His favorite thing is he will sit and watch television with you! Yes, he actually does watch and follow the action! He particularly likes to watch dogs, cats and horses! Again, he is in good health and needs a loving home that can appreciate his individuality and intelligence. He just underwent surgery to remove a cystic growth on his side, so his hair is just growing back. Again, if you know of anyone who is interested in a smaller terrier breed, please have them contact me. Incidentally, both of these dogs are "hypoallergenic" in that they have hair...not fur/dander. They don't shed like dogs with fur. Their hair does fall out...and if you allow their hair to grow longer, it will create more hair "balls". But for people or children with allergies to dog fur dander, these two are among the better breeds to consider, especially if you keep them clipped short. Both breeds need occasional grooming...about every 3 months and benefit from weekly brushings to keep them in good shape. They're not fussy eaters and enjoy their food immensely! If you know of anyone who is interested in a large breed or a small terrier, both with plenty of energy and love to give, please have them contact me here at MCC at my extension...or phone: 847-987-0393.

Lexmark Printer For SaleSubmitted By akoenig@mchenry.edu 9/25/2009 11:10:59 AM Phone: I'm trying to sell my Lexmark Z22 basic color printer. I have both the installation cd and instruction booklet for it. There are separate stalls for both black and color ink cartridges. There isn't anything wrong with it besides it needs an ink cartridge. I sold my computer and don't need the printer anymore. I'm asking for $5 or best offer since it needs a cartridge. If there are any questions, feel free to drop me an email. McHenry County Challenges Residents!Submitted By pdieckho@mchenry.edu 9/1/2009 1:29:27 PM Phone: P: 815.334.0309 McHenry County challenges residents, employees to “change the world” and “drive smarter” McHenry County is challenging its residents and employees to “change the world” and “drive smarter” as part of the National Association of Counties (NACo) annual Green County Competitions: the Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR Campaign and the Drive $marter Challenge. The Change the World campaign is an energy efficiency campaign in which counties collect pledges from county employees and residents to not only change a light in their home to an energy efficient one, but to also take other actions to save energy. Energy-saving actions could include power managing computers, choosing ENERGY STAR appliances, and properly programming home thermostats. www.greencounties.org/changetheworld The Drive $marter Challenge is a fuel-efficiency campaign launched in 2008. The campaign offers effective money- and gas-saving tips in English and Spanish and extensive additional resources – all aimed at keeping more money in drivers’ pockets and reducing the number of costly trips to the pump. Pledge collections will be taken July 1 through Nov. 30 at www.drivesmarterchallenge.org. McHenry County has accepted both of NACo’s challenges. Three winning counties from this year’s Change the World competition will receive a $5,000 grant. Three winning counties from this year’s Drive $marter Challenge will receive a $3,500 grant. Pledge collections for both competitions will be taken July 1 through Nov. 30. Adam Lehmann Public Information Officer McHenry County, IL 2200 N. Thank YouSubmitted By jnordhol@mchenry.edu 9/8/2009 2:48:19 PM Phone: 7511 I want to express my sincere thanks to everyone who expressed their condolences upon the death of my father. Your kind words, cards, plants and donations were appreciated at this difficult time. I am very grateful that I work with so many caring people. Although this is a sad time for me it is comforting to know that I have so much support here at MCC. |
