Shoes for Afghan Children; Cookies for SoldiersSubmitted By dbieschk@mchenry.edu 2/27/2009 12:00:19 PM Phone: 8728 Mary Moltmann, retired psychology instructor, thanks MCC employees for donating gently-used shoes and socks for soldiers to distribute to the bare-footed Afghan children who live near the Army base. On Feb. 19, Mary emailed 1st Sgt. Andy Fowles of the Woodstock National Guard's Delta Company, to expect 27 boxes filled with 451 pairs of shoes, 25 pairs of boots, and 513 pairs of socks that have been contributed by her church and community members, including MCC employees. 1st Sgt. Andy Fowles sent her the following email: "Thank you so much. I can't believe all of the donations, it is incredible. We will make a lot of kids very happy once we get all of these handed out. Our plan is to meet with one of the village elders and ask him the best way to distribute the shoes and socks. Sometimes it is difficult to hand the stuff out and be fair about it because the older kids take it away from the younger kids, but this time we have plenty for all of them. We are very lucky to have people like you supporting us!" Mary is still collecting Girl Scout cookies to send to the 54 soldiers with the Woodstock National Guard. If you would like to donate a box, contact Mary at maryed86@sbcglobal.net Thanks for the cards and flowersSubmitted By jracine@mchenry.edu 2/11/2009 1:58:48 PM Phone: Thanks to everybody who sent us cards and flowers to celebrate the birth of our baby girl, Aubrey Claire. WANTED: CHRISTIANSubmitted By rritter@mchenry.edu 2/13/2009 8:27:21 AM Phone: 8930 I'm the advisor to the Campus Christian Fellowship organization on campus and will be retiring June 30 of this year. This leaves my CCF students without an advisor for next year. Did you know that without an advisor a club isn't official? If you've been thinking about becoming an advisor, and you're a Christian, consider this organization. The students are a wonderful group of young people, very dedicated, and they have a sincere love of Jesus. Knowing these students and being part of the CCF group has deeply enriched my life. If you think this might be an organization you are interested in feel free to contact me, or even better, attend our meetings. We meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 - 4 p.m. in A205. Tuesday is Bible study and Thursday is dedicated to prayers. |
