Health tip for the week: Everyone is worried this time of year, with Thanksgiving and the Holidays bringing delicious foods, but also 100's of extra calories. I call it the Holiday 5-10! So, how can you avoid gaining those couple of pounds that are very difficult to take off? Try these simple tips:

1. Watch your alcohol consumption--Yes, there are calories in those beverages! Sip your drinks and try to have no more than one per hour (plus your liver will thank you). 2. Put smaller portions of food on your plate--you can always have seconds (or thirds!). If you do have a second helping, go for the vegetable side dishes first, then the stuffing and gravy.

3. Drink a glass of water before you sit down to eat--it takes the edge off your hunger. 4. Don't skip meals earlier in the day in anticipation of the main meal--you'll actually eat more calories because you are so hungry. 5. Eat slower, make the first plate last 20 minutes--your brain tells your stoach, "you are full!" Have a wonderful Holiday Season everyone!

Holiday Greetings for Military Personnel

Submitted By jlefevre@mchenry.edu  12/5/2008 12:25:58 PM

Phone: x8562

My dad is the director of the O'Hare Arlington Heights Satellite Retiree Assistance Office (SRAO) in Arlington Heights. He gave me some guidelines for sending holiday greetings to our troops overseas.

Unfortunately, greeting cards had to be postmarked by Dec. 10 to arrive in time for Christmas. However, there are other programs still available. Please see the attached PDF for all the details and regulations.

If you,a family member or friend have any military retiree concerns, please give him a call. He and his office are there to help. Tell him you work at MCC with me :)
