Title: Director, MCC Children's Learning Center

Primary Purpose:
To assume the role of administration of the MCC Children's Learning Center.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Implement and maintain Children's Learning Center (CLC) and Early Childhood Education (ECE) program philosophy, goals, and objectives.
  • Staff the CLC with preschool teachers who meet or exceed the Department of Children and Family Services qualifications for Director qualified staff.
  • Hire, conduct orientation, supervise, and evaluate the CLC staff within the guidelines of the College.
  • In cooperation with the Dean of Education, hire, conduct orientation, supervise and evaluate work study students.
  • Provide at least 15 clock hours of in-service for the CLC staff as required by DCFS standards for child/adult ratios.
  • Keep records of CLC staff, ECE student volunteers, and work study students up to date and in compliance with DCFS standards.
  • Order, inventory and maintain supplies and equipment for the CLC.
  • Develop and monitor annual CLC budget.
  • Meet with the Executive Dean, Education and Social Sciences, the Dean of Education and the Director of Educational Programs on a regular basis to assure philosophical continuity of ECE and CLC curriculum.
  • Maintain open, friendly communication with parents.
  • Collaborate with departments such as Kids & college, etc., to offer joint programming for chldren.
  • Work with Foodservices, Business Office, Student Services, and other such areas on campus which require cooperation to provide services required by DCFS.
  • Serve on ECE advisory Committee.
  • Marketing/advertising of CLC.
  • Register children and conduct parent orientation sessions.
  • Manage the monthly billings.
  • Support and participate in the College's commitment to continuous improvement and the AQIP process of accreditation through appropriate participation in Action Team activities.
  • Prepare staff to perform Director's duties in the absence of the Director.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Supervision:
Under the direction of the Dean of Education.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Master's Degree in Early Childhood Ed or equiv. req.
Certification:
First Aid and CPR required. Type 04 ECE Certification preferred. Illinois Foodservice Sanitation Manager Certification preferred.
Experience:
Work experience as a Director or Assistant Director in an Illinois Department of Children and Family Services licensed child care program.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of DCFS licensing standards and national licensing processes.
  • Computer knowledge.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a strong interest in young children, with a philosophy that is compatible with the goals of the CLC, including a working knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice, anti-bias programming, emergent literacy, American Disabilities Act, etc.
