Preschool Teachers / Part-time (2 positions available) |
Work Year: Mid-Aug - Mid-May, excl. semester breaks, holidays |
Work Week: 20-35 hrs./wk. Position 1: M-F 9AM to 3:30 PM; Position 2: M-Th 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM & Fri 10AM to 4PM. Hours will vary each semester dependent upon enrollment and ages of the children. |
Primary Purpose: Responsible for teaching/supervising in all preschool curricular areas, providing for the needs of the children while in the care of the MCC-CLC, and participating with ECE student observations, as appropriate. Serve (as needed) in the role of Director of the CLC. |
Essential Job Functions:
- Attend & participate constructively at planning meetings & staff meetings.
- Implement teaching methods consistent w/the Center's curriculum model and the methods taught in the ECE program.
- Fill in for Director on an as needed basis.
- Prepare all materials in advance for implementation of the curriculum on a daily basis.
- Assist in maintaining DCFS licensing standards & the national accreditation guidelines.
- Report child abuse as mandated by law.
- Resolve conflicts w/ both children & parents.
- Decide upon & use behavioral techniques appropriate for educational needs of children.
- Assess developmental program through authentic assessment and report results to parents in a timely fashion.
- Promote & supervise activities for children which encourage healthy emotional, social, cognitive & physical development.
- Be responsive to children.
- Interact, when appropriate, in children's activities.
- Observe & maintain records of childrens growth & development using authentic assessment tools such as observation & portfolios.
- Maintain a clean and orderly environment.
- Communicate w/ parents in a positive manner.
- Set up & clean up in the classroom as necessary.
- As requested, acts as cooperating teacher to the practicum students which will include: offering suggestions on implementation of activities in the classroom, giving directions for and supervising classroom duties in all areas of the classroom, observing practicum students implementing curricular activities, evaluating curricular activities using an evaluation form provided by the practicum instructor & contributing to the overall evaluation of the practicum student's performance using an evaluation form provided by the practicum instructor.
- Provide daily direction & monitor student aides, giving guidance & instruction where needed.
- Serve as a professional role model for ECE students & child care community at large.
- Participates with ECE sutdent observations as appropriate and provides evaluation of students doing activities in the CLC when requested by the ECE faculty, using the evaluation tools provided.
- DCFS standards for serving as the Director must be followed.
- Must maintain and document 15 clock hours of professional activities each year to meet DCFS standards.
- Provide office assistance as needed which will include: enrolling children, maintaining childrens files, maintaining records of lunch orders in extra hours & conducting & maintaining inventory of supplies & equipment.
- Use computers (in the office & classroom), laminator, copy machine & audiovisual equipment.
- Additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

| Minimum Qualifications: |
Education: REQUIRED: Minimum two years (3120 clock hours) of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten or licensed day care center, one year of college credits with 10 semester or
equivalent quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development and proof of enrollment in an accredited college or university until two years of college credit have
been achieved. A total of 18 hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development is required to be obtained within the total two years of college credits. See Skills (below) for addl. Educ |
Certification: First Aid and CPR. |
Experience: Experienced in a licensed preschool/child care facility. |
Skills and Abilities: Additional Education Information:
OR: Completion of the credentialing program of the CDA National Credentialing Award System (The Child Development Associate, 1982) with a current credential as a Child Development Associate, completion of 12 semester or equivalent quarter hours in courses related to child care and/or child development from birth to age six at an accredited college or university, and two years (3120 clock hours) child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten or licensed day care center.
PREFERRED: Sixty hours of credit from an accredited college or university with 18 semester or equivalent quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development from birth to age six. Beyond DCFS Requirements, an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related area is preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate interactive skills with children consistent with CLC policies.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
- Knowledge of DCFS licensing standards and NAEYC accreditation guidelines.
- Knowledge of portfolio assessment.
- Written and oral communication skills required.
- Self-directed and flexible.

Minimum Salary Range: $14.53 Hourly |
