Honors Program
MCC offers academically talented students an opportunity to participate in an Honors Program or individual Honors Program courses.
This expanded educational experience allows you to study a subject in greater depth and from a variety of perspectives. The program emphasizes the refinement of skills in writing, research, problem solving and critical thinking.
You must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the Honors Program:
Incoming high school graduates:
To take a single Honors course, you need two of the following:
- High School GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale;
- ACT score of 24 or SAT of 1000;
- Two academic letters of recommendation from high school teachers
For full participation in the Honors Program:
- Be eligible for invitation to Phi Theta Kappa or;
Two of the following:
- High School GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale;
- ACT score of 24 or SAT of 1000;
- Two academic letters of recommendation from high school teachers
For current college students:
To take a single Honors course:
- GPA of 3.2 in at least 12 college credit hours;
For full participation in the Honors Program:
- Be a member in good standing of Phi Theta Kappa or;
- GPA of 3.5 in at least 12 college credit hours
You must maintain a 3.5 GPA to continue in the Honors Program. To graduate with Honors Program designation, you must complete 18 to 20 semester hours of Honors Program coursework and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5. All honors coursework is identified on your transcript and an Honors Program graduate will have a special notation and award along with the degree.
If you are interested only in coursework and not the program, you are required to have a cumulative GPA of 3.2.
