"The Ethics of Fracking", a 38-minute film, with panel and q&a to follow. Explore the spiritual, medical, educational, scientific and political points of view of natural gas extraction, also known as fracking. The documentary, The Ethics of Fracking, also looks at the advertising relied upon by the natural gas industry. Please join The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County, with co-sponsors The League of Women Voters and Citizens Climate Lobby, and host The Sustainability Institute of McHenry County College, for a screening of The Ethics of Fracking on Tuesday, March 31, 7pm at Luecht Conference Center at MCC. Panel presentation to follow, including a firsthand account of a “fracked” property. Doors open at 6:30.

Hosted by McHenry County Conservation District and the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County. The event is held both indoors and out and will go on rain or shine!Live Music including TWO performances by Joe Reilly at 11:45 am & 2:30 pm.

Guided Nature Hikes, Puppet Shows, Games and Crafts. Over 20 Environmental Exhibitors. Food & Beverage Vendors on site or bring your own. “No waste” picnic lunch. Carpool to the event with friends to enter the raffle for a free picnic shelter reservation.

HOUSEHOLD RECYCLING DROP OFF: A variety of items will be accepted for recycling including athletic shoes, batteries, fluorescent tubes, VHS tapes, CDs, cassettes, Styrofoam, bubble wrap, packing peanuts and electronics. Also accepting athletic shoes and fiber (clothing, towels, etc.)  There is a nominal drop-off/recycle fee for TVs ($10 small; $25 for Large).

Elgin Recycling has partnered with McHenry County for their annual Recycling Extravaganza.McHenry County Department of Health (MCDH) encourages residents to save the date for our McHenry County Residential Electronics and Recycling Extravaganza.  Residents can drop off items on Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 8am - 1pm, at the McHenry County Administration Building (North parking lot) located at 667 Ware Road, Woodstock  IL. MCDH has partnered with several businesses and community organizations to collect and recycle residential electronics and a variety of other recyclable materials.  Items that will be accepted include residential electronics; latex paint; onsite shredding documents for destruction; fluorescent lamps and CFLs; clean clothing (slightly stained or torn accepted); Styrofoam, packing peanuts, bubble wrap; batteries (alkaline and rechargeable) and eyeglasses. No commercial or business waste or other types of household waste will be accepted. Recycling fees will apply to fluorescent lamps, CFLs and latex paint.
