Travel back in time with Nancy Fike, director of the McHenry County Historical Society, and Bob Frenz, author of Historic Country Schools of McHenry County Illinois, as we tour historic one-room schools in McHenry County. The tour will depart from Union, IL. (Directions will be mailed to participants.) The tour concentrates on the south-western quarter of the county. A box lunch at the 1868 Riley Town Hall is included in the tour price. There will be 18 - 19 school houses on the route and we will tour the inside of four. Wear comfortable shoes. Tour the McHenry County Master Gardeners' Demonstration Garden at McHenry County College, as well as six unique private gardens clustered in the Crystal Lake and Woodstock area. You will see stunning garden designs, a wide variety of unusual plant material, a herb garden and butterfly garden, as well as a whimsical multi-acre garden! Master Gardeners will be on hand at each garden to answer your gardening questions. Touring the gardens is on your own. Advance tickets are available through MCC by calling (815) 479-7570. Tickets are also available the day of the walk at the Master Gardners' Demonstration Garden at MCC. Plants from the Master Gardeners' gardens will be on sale at the Demo Garden on the day of Garden Walk. |
