On Tuesday, March 4, 2008, the Crystal Lake City Council approved MCC's request for a variation from the zoning ordinance to allow for 50% impervious coverage on our current campus and adjacent property on which the College has an option to purchase (Gilger property). This decision will provide the College the opportunity in the future to expand the main campus at its current location.
The City Council's decision also provided the College's trustees with assurance that MCC would be able to make effective use of the adjacent Gilger property on which the College has an option to purchase.
At the College Board meeting on the same evening, the MCC Board of Trustees voted unanimously to exercise the option to purchase the Gilger land. While the College has no immediate plans to build on this property, this land purchase will add 57 acres to our current main campus, bringing our total land area to 169 acres. The acquisition of this property also ensures that the College will continue to be accessible by Tartan Drive and positions MCC well for Metra's long-range plans of adding a train station on Ridgefield Road.
This is an exciting time for the College, and these recent acts help ensure that MCC's main campus will remain at its current location for decades to come.
