Doug Manley was born in the prairie. He attended the University of South Dakota where he was awarded a BFA in sculpture. After graduating he attended the Illinois institute of Technology and immediately transferred to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and was awarded an MFA in Photography in 1977. At that time, he accepted his first teaching position at Oakton Community College. Subsequently he has held positions as photographer in the U.S. Army and as manager of a pro color lab where he also did commercial and studio work. He returned to teaching while in the Army working for both City Colleges of Chicago and St. Marys of Florida.
Mr. Manley is an exhibiting artist and continues to teach photography classes in art for Waubonsee Community College, College of Lake County (limited term full time) and McHenry County College where he has been teaching for the past 10 years.
