Renee graduated from MCC in 1996 with an associate’s degree in Business and a Small-Business Specialist Certificate. In 2000, Renee completed the MCC Floral Design certificate.
Renee has made a lifelong commitment to the floral design industry, to education, and to helping others. Opening her own business in 1997, Renee’s of Ridgefield Flower Shop, was her dream. Becoming a floral artist became her accomplishment. She has worked with world renowned designers such as Hitomi Gilliam, Carol Caggiano, John Hosek, and Randy Wooten.
Renee believes that without the help of many mentors, including her MCC instructors, she wouldn’t be the designer she is today. To that end, she’s passionate about giving back to her community and to MCC.
Renee has been an adjunct instructor in the Horticulture Department at MCC since 2012. She shares her knowledge with students not only in the Floral Design classes, but also in non-floral related Horticulture Department classes. Renee is a member of the Horticulture advisory committee and provides invaluable ideas on ways to promote the department and inspire interest in students.
In addition to owning her own business, Renee has many accomplishments. In 2001, she was awarded the Women in Management Outstanding Achievement Award. In 2002, Renee was inducted into the American Institute of Floral Design (AIFD). Accredited membership in AIFD is extremely selective and can be obtained only after a candidate has effectively demonstrated advanced professional ability of his or her floral artistry. She served as the Teleflora President of the Illiana unit from 2004 through 2006. In 2015, she was inducted as a Certified Floral Evaluator/Judge. She was a judge at the FFA competition in 2015 and Renee judged the 4H floral competition at the McHenry County Fair in 2016. In 2016, Renee’s of Ridgefield was named Top Pick by the Daily Herald Newspaper, and, in the same year, she received Bronze level of dedicated service from McHenry County College.
Renee’s community service includes her role of Director for It’s All About Kids Pediatric Cancer Organization since 1998, and she’s also the scholarship chair for McHenry County Women’s Bowling Association. In 2010, she was Committee Director for Arden Shore Children’s Services and received the Presidents Volunteer Service Award from Arden Shore Children’s Services in 2015.
