Entrepreneurial Agriculture Report

Through a generous grant from a private donor, McHenry County College (MCC) launched an exploration of entrepreneurial agriculture in McHenry County. There were three goals:

  1. Understand the myriad ways growers and producers are attempting to create a sustainable businesses in the county.
  2. Understand the current gaps in knowledge and expertise facing individuals already involved in entrepreneurial agriculture.
  3. Assess the opportunity for MCC to provide timely, useful, supply- skills and education, both to current agricultural business owners as well as to students aspiring to enter this professional space.

The focus was on local food farming and its related businesses, though the discovery process was designed to include other aspects of agriculture. We also learned from organizations and farms throughout the northern Illinois region whose work engages with McHenry County, while McHenry County remained the specific geographic focus.
