Lou and Margaret Marchi (deceased), community leaders in local environmental issues, set up an endowment at McHenry County College in 1994. Funds generated from the endowment were used to create an Institute at the College to promote recycling in the county as an alternative waste disposal solution. Lou’s vision was for the Institute to provide programming that would promote reducing, reusing and recycling in an effort to reach the goal of zero waste.
