New Student Advising, Registration and Orientation

All new students will receive a postcard with information about New Student Orientation.

Before New Student Orientation, be sure to complete the following:

  1. Send your high school and any college transcripts to Admissions as soon as possible.
  2. Apply for Financial Aid. (Complete FAFSA online.)
  3. Complete Placement Testing.

    IMPORTANT: Placement Tests (if needed) must be completed prior to NSO.

    Please take placement tests seriously. They are vital to accurate assessment and help with course selection.

    • If you are completing a degree or intend to take math, English or reading, you will be required to take placement tests if your ACT scores are greater than two years old or below:
      • 21 in English (English and reading placement required)
      • 25 in math (math placement required)
    • Take your placement tests at the Testing Center, A245 (815) 455-8984.
      • No appointment necessary
      • No cost for first attempt but retake fee is $5 per test
      • Bring a photo I.D.
    • Use the following resources to review before you take placement tests
    • Take a Foreign Language Placement Test if you plan to register for a French, German, or Spanish course other than the beginning course; high school grades will not be accepted.
