New Student Advising, Registration and Orientation

For Fall 2010 Orientation

All new students will receive a postcard with information about New Student Orientation.

Before New Student Orientation, be sure to complete the following:

Fall 2010 Parent Orientations Are Complete

We will be announcing the Spring 2011 Parent Orientation schedule soon.

  1. Send your high school and any college transcripts to Admissions as soon as possible.
  2. Apply for Financial Aid. (Complete FAFSA online.)
  3. Complete Placement Testing.

    IMPORTANT: Placement Tests must be completed prior to NSO.

    Please take placement tests seriously. They are vital to accurate assessment and help with course selection.

    • If you are completing a degree or intend to take math, English or reading, you will be required to take placement tests. Students whose ACT scores are less than two years old, and who meet or exceed the minimum scores listed below may not be required to take placements tests:
      • 21 in English
      • 25 in math
    • Take your placement tests at the Testing Center, A245 (815) 455-8984.
      • No appointment necessary
      • No cost for first attempt but retake fee is $5 per test
      • Bring a photo I.D.
    • Use the following resources to review before you take placement tests
    • Take a Foreign Language Placement Test if you plan to register for a French, German, or Spanish course and have prior foreign language experience; high school grades will not be accepted.
