ISBDC OFFERS A TIMELY TAX WORKSHOP OCTOBER 20 |

Small business owners can get timely information on tax law changes at a comprehensive tax seminar from 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, October 20, offered by the Illinois Small Business Development Center (ISBDC) at McHenry County College. The workshop will be held at the Shah Center, 4100 W. Shamrock Lane in McHenry, near Centegra Hospital.
Workshop fee is $45.

ACT PRACTICE TEST SCHEDULED AT MCC |
|
An ACT Practice test is scheduled at McHenry County College from 1-4:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 17. This practice test is meant to give the student the experience of taking all four tests at one sitting and for students to see where they may need some additional study time for when they take the actual test. Cost is $20.

Learn how to sell yourself to employers with a top-notch resume and explore winning job search strategies at two separate career workshops offered by the McHenry County College Career Services Department. The workshops include Resume and Cover Letter Writing Workshop on September 29 or October 26 and Job Search Strategy and Personal Marketing Workshop on September 30 or October 27. Each workshop is $15.

MCC TO HOST FIT FOR LIFE 5K WALK/RUN 2009 |

The McHenry County College Fitness Center will host the Fit for Life 5K Walk/Run 2009 at 8:30 a.m. with check-in beginning at 7 a.m. Sunday, October 4 at Lippold Park in Crystal Lake, located on Route 176, just west of Route 14. Proceeds from the race will go toward purchasing equipment for the special populations to use at the MCC Fitness Center. Some of these special populations include members of Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association (NISRA), Special Education District of McHenry County (SEDOM). Cost to race is $25 through September 26 and $30 through race day.

Come see what the future holds for your education at College Fair 2009 from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 8 at McHenry County College, located at 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14, Crystal Lake. High school juniors and seniors and their parents, college students who are interested in transferring, and adults returning to college are welcome to meet with more than 100 college admission representatives from schools around the state and country. The event is free of charge.

Discover how to develop an annual sponsorship program for your agency at the Center for Non-Profit Leadership breakfast seminar from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Thursday, September 17 in Room B177. Participants will learn how to identify and approach corporate sponsors with a concise proposal for annual sponsorship and learn how to craft proposals that meet the guidelines of agencies, businesses and the IRS. The importance of reporting back and stewarding existing relationships among corporate sponsors will also be discussed. The presenter is Kathrine Pfister, development coordinator at McHenry County College, who has over 20 years development experience in a variety of capacities in the not-for-profit sector. Fee is $15.

The Illinois Small Business Development Center at McHenry County College offers opportunities and assistance to help small businesses throughout the year. Two upcoming classes feature how to create an eco-friendly business and the other is about trademarks and copyrights. Reserve a seat now for either of the following classes: "Green Your Business," one of ISBDC's newest offerings, scheduled from 7-10 p.m. September 22. This class costs $30. Plus, "How To Use Trademark, Copyright and Patent Protection" is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, September 23 and costs $39.

MCC TO OFFER "GETTING STARTED" SEMINARS FOR RETURNING ADULT STUDENTS |

Adults who have been out of high school for several years or decades may explore returning to college with ease with free "Getting Started" seminars, offered throughout the school year by McHenry County College. The next session is scheduled from noon to 5-6:30 p.m. on Friday, September 18 or from 12-1:30 p.m. Friday, September 25. MCC's adult recruiter Helen Jost specializes in helping older students return to college and offers the Getting Started seminars as a way to help students feel more comfortable.

MCC STUDENT PEACE GROUP TO HOST HEALTH CARE REFORM BILLS FORUM AT MCC |

The McHenry County College Student Peace Action Network (SPAN) will host an informational seminar on "Health Care Reform Bills: Truth and Fiction" at 7 p.m. September 9 in the college's conference center. This free event will feature a panel of four experts, including Jane Hansen, family nurse practitioner; David Borris, of Illinois Main Street Alliance; Hal Snyder, M.D., and John Gaudette, Illinois Director, Health Care for America Now (HCAN). The forum will include an overview of the current health care system and provide a better understanding of the health care crisis facing Americans. Information on how the pending health care legislation will impact U.S. residents.

Registration is underway for the Paraprofessional Test Preparation class that will meet from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturdays beginning September 12 through October 10 at McHenry County College. The Paraprofessional Test Preparation class is intended to serve as a refresher/review course of reading, writing and math skills in preparation to take the ACT WorkKeys Assessment.
