McHenry County College welcomes Flecia Thomas, Ph.D. as the new Dean of Student Success, a new full-time administrative position that will provide leadership for services and programs that enhance the success and retention of all MCC students. Dr. Thomas will provide overall leadership for the Advising and Transfer Center, Career Services, Counseling, Sage Learning Center, Special Needs, Testing Center, and programs for new students.

Monday, July 27, 2009 MIKSA NAMED VICE PRESIDENT AT MCC

The McHenry County College Board of Trustees has recently appointed Anthony Miksa, Ed.D. as the new vice president of Academic and Student Affairs. Miksa succeeds Jim Gray, who retired in December 2007. Longtime MCC instructor Brian Sager, Ph.D., served as interim vice president for the past year and a half until his retirement June 30. Miksa has served as dean of mathematics, science, engineering and health professions at Elgin Community College since 2006.

Tuesday, July 21, 2009 MCC WELCOMES CULINARY INSTRUCTOR FOR FIRST-EVER CULINARY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

McHenry County College welcomes Thomas Kaltenecker, a European-trained chef as the new full-time instructor/executive chef for its first-ever Culinary Management certificate program. MCC's culinary students can earn a professional certificate in either chef assistant or baking and pastry in as early as 16 weeks. Currently, Kaltenecker is traveling in Europe and will post recipes and messages to MCC's Facebook fanpage to stay connected with future MCC culinary students and college staff.

Tuesday, July 14, 2009 MCHENRY COUNTY COLLEGE SHAH CENTER TO OFFER QUICKBOOKS ACCOUNTING SOFTWARE TRAINING

McHenry County College Shah Center is offering a Quickbooks 2008 accounting software series. This 5-class series is available from 6 to 9 p.m. on Mondays, from August 3 through 31, QuickBooks is an accounting software for small business financial management and bookkeeping. Individual course fee is $95. The series is discounted by 15 percent for a fee of $403, this includes all materials. Use the QuickBooks series course ID: NTC S57 003 when registering. These courses are located at The Shah Center, 4100 W. Shamrock Lane in McHenry.

Friday, July 10, 2009 MCC TO HOST AUDITIONS FOR "CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF"

The Black Box Theatre at McHenry County College will host auditions for its fall production of Tennessee Williams' fiery and passionate drama "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," directed by Jay Geller. Auditions will be held from 6–8 p.m. Monday, August 31 and Tuesday, September 1 in the Black Box Theatre, Room D167 at McHenry County College. Those who audition must prepare a 2-4 minute dramatic monologue or a reading will be provided. Callbacks will be September 3. Performances will begin November 5.

Jay Geller, instructor of Speech and Theater, was selected as McHenry County College Outstanding Faculty Member. He was among eight faculty members considered for the distinction and was recently recognized along with other instructors throughout the state at the Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA) annual recognition banquet in Chicago.

An MCC administrator was recommended for the first time for an Excellence Award from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD). Normah Salleh-Barone, assistant vice president for Learning and Student Support Services, recently joined faculty members Jay Geller and Sandy Vitale at an Excellence Awards Ceremony at the University of Texas. At MCC, the criteria to be recognized for the award includes teaching excellence/service to students, commitment to assessment and professional development activity.

Monday, July 06, 2009 MCHENRY COUNTY COLLEGE CHILDREN'S LEARNING CENTER NOW ENROLLING PRESCHOOL ENROLLMENT FOR 2009-10

Preschool enrollment at the McHenry County College Children's Learning Center is underway and will continue until all spots are filled. Morning programs are available for three-year-olds and an afternoon program is available for five-year olds, turning five before January 1, 2010.
