McHenry County College baseball player Darcy Doyle of Australia, was voted to the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) All-Conference First Team and was named a team captain for the MCC Scots for the 2010 season.

The McHenry County College Department of Athletics announces ScotStars 2009, youth baseball, basketball, soccer and softball summer camps. The camps will include general skills in each sport and specialty camps will be offered for individual training in one area of each sport.

Wednesday, May 27, 2009 MCC NAMES FIRST RECIPIENT OF JOSEPH A. BLANCO SPIRIT AWARD

McHenry County College named Erin Sheils of Crystal Lake the first recipient of the Joseph A. Blanco Spirit Award, a $500 award given to a Special Needs student who displays a positive attitude working toward the completion of a degree or certificate while overcoming a disability.

Tuesday, May 26, 2009 REAL ESTATE CLASS AT MCHENRY COUNTY COLLEGE

Get started on a new career this summer with a real estate class offered by McHenry County College Professional Education Department. This eight-week class will meet from 6 to 8:50 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays beginning June 8 through July 30 at the McHenry County Association of Realtor's Office, 405 E. Congress Parkway, Suite A, Crystal Lake. Cost of the class is $295, which includes the textbook.

Monday, May 18, 2009 MCC CHILDREN'S LEARNING CENTER ENROLLING FOR SUMMER CAMP

The McHenry County College Children's Learning Center is currently accepting registration for summer camp sessions for children between four and six years of age. Sessions begin on Monday, June 8 and are offered in two-week sessions from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Before and after-camp care is available on a limited basis. Each session costs $114, which includes a snack each day.

Monday, May 18, 2009 MCC LITERACY VOLUNTEER EARNS ILLINOIS SPOTLIGHT ON SERVICE AWARD

James Himmelspach of Crystal Lake was named one of 10 exemplary volunteer literacy tutors as part of the Spotlight on Service Awards sponsored by the Illinois State Library Literacy Office and the Illinois Press Association. Himmelspach is a retired sales executive who has served as a tutor for the English as a Second Language program at McHenry County College for seven years. He was recognized along with nine other literacy volunteers on May 13 at the Illinois State Library in Springfield. Tutor winners received a commemorative plaque and $200 for the literacy program for which they volunteer.

A new slate of officers was recently elected to the McHenry County Student Senate. They include: senate president Alyssa Macuk, vice-president Rebecca Harris, secretary Michelle Walter, all of McHenry; treasurer Patricia Brandt of Woodstock; and student trustee Cody Sheriff of McHenry. Senators include: Julie Mussared of Richmond, Carl Rice of Woodstock, Alex Peters of McHenry, and Cody Kunz of Marengo.

The Illinois Small Business Development Center (ISBDC) will offer an interactive, two-part series on Social Networking and how it applies to today's businesses. Participants will learn everything from basic concepts behind social network websites to how to get started and create their own profile to get their business widespread exposure. This hands-on series will run on two consecutive Tuesday evenings, from 7 to 9 p.m. May 19 and May 26 at the Shah Center, 4100 W. Shamrock Lane, McHenry. The cost for both sessions is $39.

Taking those first steps toward getting a college education can be difficult-especially if you've been out of school for awhile. Just ask Helen Jost, adult recruitment specialist at McHenry County College. Jost specializes in helping older students- those who have been out of high school for several years or more-get started at MCC. To help students feel more comfortable, Jost will be hosting two separate "Getting Started" seminars at the college in May. The next sessions are scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 13 in Room A119 and from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 15 in Room A119.

May topics include Cash Flow Analysis on May 12, Starting a Business in Illinois on May 13, How to Develop a Business Plan on May 19, and a Marketing Bootcamp on May 21. In addition, the ISBDC will continue its Branding Brainstorming group from 6-8 p.m. on May 7. This group meets on the first Thursday of every month.

MCC offers a cost-effective opportunity for hands-on computer training with access to the most up-to-date techniques and standards in business and industry. These programs are located at the Shah Center, 4100 W. Shamrock Lane, McHenry. The courses include Computer Basics, Microsoft Excel, Basic PowerPoint and Microsoft Access.
