Tuesday, April 28, 2009 MCC UNVEILS WOMEN'S FILM LIBRARY

McHenry County College announces a Women's Film Library featuring films by women about issues facing women and society as a whole. Films are available on a limited basis with an MCC or area public library card. The women's film library grew out of the annual Women's Film Festival, which is part of the annual MCC Women's History Month in March. Eight women's films are available to the public for two-day checkout.

For those looking to enhance their computer skills, McHenry County College is offering computer courses for individuals and area business employees. MCC offers a cost-effective opportunity for hands-on computer training with access to the most up-to-date techniques and standards in business and industry. These programs are located at the Shah Center, 4100 W. Shamrock Lane, McHenry. The courses include Computer Basics, Microsoft Excel, Basic PowerPoint and Microsoft Access.

Friday, April 10, 2009 MCC TO HOST DRUM CLINIC FOR ALL AGES, SKILL LEVELS APRIL 18
McHenry County College will host a Drum Clinic at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 18 in the college's conference center, 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14, Crystal Lake. In its fourth year at McHenry County College, this Drum Clinic will include drum set and snare drum rudimental skills, plus a wide range of topics. The clinic is hosted by local drum instructor, Steve Fagiano, of Huntley. Fagiano is also founder and director of The Classic Drum Line, a 16-member drum line of boys and girls from 12 to 22, who will perform during the clinic. Another highlight will include Russ Mehle, who specializes in drum instruction for children with special needs.

Friday, April 10, 2009 MCC OFFERS FREE SEMINARS FOR ADULTS RETURNING TO COLLEGE
Taking those first steps toward getting a college education can be difficult—especially if you've been out of school for awhile. MCC continues its series of "Getting Started" seminars that give returning adults a chance to meet other students like themselves, learn about degree and certificate requirements, start the financial aid process and tour the MCC campus. The next seminar is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 20 and another seminar is scheduled from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 24; both meet in Room A119. The seminars are free and refreshments will be served.

Friday, April 10, 2009 NEW COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM FROM MCC: MAP CREATED TO HELP SHAPE FUTURE OF COLLEGE
McHenry County College invites area residents to participate in MAP, a new community engagement project to help shape the future of the College. MCC launched MAP in March as part of the College's awareness-building efforts and to create an opportunity for community members to provide input on key issues that will inform a new strategic plan. The next MAP session will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21. The topic on April 21 will focus on: "Responding to local, educational, social, cultural, and economic needs," or a look at how new programs are developed to respond to various needs within the McHenry County area community.

The McHenry County College Student Peace Action Network (SPAN) will host an informational seminar on "Legal Murder: Exposing Flaws and Injustices in the Death Penalty" at 7 p.m. April 8 in the college's conference center. The event will feature Jeremy Schroeder, executive director of the Illinois Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty (ICADP) and Gary Gauger, a wrongfully convicted McHenry County resident. The event is free and open to the public.

Shamrock Lane, McHenry. An MCC alumni, Schmidt is one of the most in-demand speakers and communications consultants in America.
