Six McHenry County College students recently took home a bronze award at the Phi Rho Pi national organization for the community college forensics programs 75th National Tournament in Portland, Oregon.

McHenry County College announces a Women's Film Library featuring films by women about issues facing women and society as a whole. Films are available on a limited basis with an MCC or area public library card. The women's film library grew out of the annual Women's Film Festival, which is part of the annual MCC Women's History Month in March. Eight women's films are available to the public for two-day checkout.

McHenry County College will host three musical events in April, featuring a Drum Clinic, a Second Sunday Concert and a Spring Jazz Concert. All of the concerts will be held in the conference center, located in Building B, 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14 in Crystal Lake.

McHenry County College's Corporate and Continuing Education Department is offering introductory Welding Boot Camp classes beginning in April. The introductory Welding Boot Camp program is a 40-hour course designed to provide students with a basic understanding of and hands-on experience in the welding profession. Classes are available on Saturday mornings, Monday/Wednesday evenings, or Tuesday/Thursday mornings.

Discover how to create a beautiful perennial garden, learn unique ways to grow vegetables, herb gardens, and tropical plants, and much more at Gardenfest 2009 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 4 at McHenry County College. Pam Duthie, owner and president of The Gifted Gardener, a landscape design and consulting firm specializing in perennial gardens, will present a keynote address titled "What Gardeners Do When They Can't Plant." The McHenry County College Student Peace Action Network (SPAN) will host an informational seminar on "Legal Murder: Exposing Flaws and Injustices in the Death Penalty" at 7 p.m. April 8 in the college's conference center. The event will feature Jeremy Schroeder, executive director of the Illinois Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty (ICADP) and Gary Gauger, a wrongfully convicted McHenry County resident. The event is free and open to the public.

Find your rhythm the enjoyable way with a variety of dance classes for all ages through McHenry County College's Continuing Education Department. No experience is required. Classes include Rock the Reception that starts April 1; Belly Dancing - Beginning that starts April 2 and two Ballroom Dance classes; one for Beginners and one for Intermediate, which both start April 3.

The Illinois Small Business Development Center of McHenry County College will host "Marketing a Culture: Creating Customer Loyalty from the Inside-Out," presented by internationally recognized branding expert Ken Schmidt from 8-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 7 at the Shah Center, 4100 W. Shamrock Lane, McHenry. An MCC alumni, Schmidt is one of the most in-demand speakers and communications consultants in America. Schmidt's expertise in corporate positioning, media relations and branding were responsible for one of the best branding resurgence of all time-the reimaging of Harley-Davidson.
