Tuesday, April 27, 2010 MCC’S AWARD-WINNING FORENSICS TEAM TO PRESENT SHOWCASE MAY 4
McHenry County College Forensics Team will present a showcase from 7-8:30 p.m. May 4 in the Black Box Theatre in Room D167 at the college, 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14, Crystal Lake. The showcase will feature the team’s award-winning performances from the 76th Phi Rho Pi National Forensics Tournament in New Orleans where the MCC team ranked fifth in Individual Event Sweepstakes and sixth in Overall Team Sweepstakes, winning Bronze for both categories. Phi Rho Pi is a national honor association for community college forensics programs.

Monday, April 26, 2010 SESSIONS JAZZ QUARTET TO PERFORM CONCERT AT MCC MAY 2
The Sessions Jazz Quartet will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 2 in the MCC Conference Center, 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14, Crystal Lake. Vocalists will include Haley Canizzo of Crystal Lake; Tony Young of McHenry; and Bergan Maursted of Crystal Lake. Sessions Jazz Quartet consists of Al Skaronea on keyboards, Bill Toalson on trumpet, Mike Panayotovich on bass, Brad Skaronea on drums. Plus, Glenn Lewis of Effingham, will be featured as guest trumpeter throughout the concert and Todd Skaronea will accompany on guitar. The concert is free and open to the public.

Friday, April 23, 2010 MCC TO KICK OFF MCHENRY COUNTY CULINARY CELEBRITY DINING SERIES
McHenry County College will kick off its first-ever monthly McHenry County Culinary Celebrity Dining Series with "Dying to Dine: Mystery Dinner Theatre" at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 8 at Woodstock North High School, 3000 Raffel Road in Woodstock. "Dying to Dine" will feature a four-course mystery dining experience hosted by Chef Thomas Kaltenecker, CHE, MCFE, executive chef and instructor of culinary management at MCC and Bonnie Gabel, advisor of the award-winning MCC Forensics Team. The meal will be prepared and served by MCC culinary students. Admission for the murder mystery theatre event is $45 in advance or $55 at the door. Proceeds from the series will be used for scholarships and/or reinvested into MCC's Culinary Management program for specific projects, including the series.

Thursday, April 22, 2010 MCC NAMES NEW MEN'S HEAD BASKETBALL COACH
McHenry County College recently named Jason Robinson of Crystal Lake the new men's head basketball coach. Robinson has worked as the assistant basketball coach since 2007. Prior to coaching at MCC, Robinson was the Leland High School boys head basketball coach in 1997 and 1998. He then moved on to coach at Marengo High School, first as an assistant in 1999 and then head coach from 2000-2004. He teaches physical education/health at Marengo Community High School.

Tuesday, April 20, 2010 VAGINA MONOLOGUES AT MCC TO BENEFIT TURNING POINT
A one-time-only encore performance of "The Vagina Monologues" will be presented at 7 p.m. Friday, April 30 by College of Lake County students and staff at McHenry County College, 8900 U.S. Highway 14, Crystal Lake. This is a collaborative effort by both colleges. The award-winning play is based on playwright Eve Ensler's interviews with more than 200 women. The performance will be held in the MCC Conference Center and will last 90 minutes. The performance will be followed by a 30-minute panel discussion with the actors and one of the directors. Admission is free, but there is a $5 suggested donation to benefit Turning Point, a domestic violence agency that confronts violence against women and children in McHenry County.

Tuesday, April 20, 2010 MCC TO HOST SPRING JAZZ CONCERT APRIL 21
McHenry County College will host a Spring Jazz Concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 21 will feature performances by the MCC Jazz Combo, directed by Thomas Takayama and the MCC Jazz Ensemble and the Sax Quartet, directed by Michael Bazan. The event is free and open to the public.

Tuesday, April 20, 2010 MCC STUDENT PEACE ACTION NETWORK TO HOST GUEST LECTURERS
The Student Peace Action Network (SPAN) at MCC will host two guest lecturers in hopes of further promoting peace and raising awareness of the growing need for compassion around the globe. Both lectures begin at 7 p.m. and will be on campus. On Thursday, April 22, Mary Batterman will speak about "Africa Through the Eyes of Volunteers," a presentation about her experience living as a health education Peace Corps volunteer working in Kilolo. In a second lecture Wednesday, April 28, Gary Christ will present "When is a War Really Over?" Christ is a Crystal Lake inventor who has been building demining devices for use in Cambodia. Both events are free and open to the public.

Monday, April 12, 2010 MCC, TRIBLOCAL TO SPONSOR COMMUNITY PUBLICITY WORKSHOP
McHenry County College and TribLocal are co-sponsoring a TribLocal community workshop from 7-8 p.m. Thursday, April 29 in Room B166-167 at the college. The workshop is open to anyone who wants to post articles, events or photos on TribLocal, the Chicago Tribune's local online newsroom. The workshop will inform residents how to become citizen contributors and send articles and photos about what's happening in Algonquin, Cary, Crystal Lake, Huntley, Lake in the Hills, McHenry and Woodstock "TribLocal is an entirely new way to deliver, share and comment on news that's important to you," said Kyle Leonard, TribLocal managing editor. The workshop is free and open to the public.

The Shah Center is pleased to celebrate the people who contribute to the success of local businesses. In honor of the administrative professional's service to area companies, the Shah Center is hosting a celebration lunch, complete with entertainment by ImprovPlayhouse of Libertyville from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 21. Cost is $25 per person or $40 for two people. Many of the Shah Center courses in April will focus on the administrative professional in honor of Administrative Professionals Week (April 18-24). Adults who are thinking of pursuing a college degree to boost their career skills or change careers, but don't know how to start school over again are invited to a "Getting Started" seminar at McHenry County College from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 28 or from 12-1:30 p.m. Friday, April 30 in Room B168. The "Getting Started" seminar gives returning adults a chance to meet other returning adult students, learn about the many degree and certificate programs, and start the financial aid process. Drummers of all levels and ages are invited to attend a Drum Clinic at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17 at McHenry County College in the college's conference center, 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14, Crystal Lake. In its fifth year at McHenry County College, this Drum Clinic provides drummers, beginner through professional, everything they need to know to enhance their skills. The clinic will include drum set and snare drum rudimental skills, plus a wide range of topics, including the proper way to tune a drum and to hold drum sticks. The clinic is hosted by local drum instructor Steve Fagiano, of Huntley. Admission is $10; $5 for students with a school ID.
