On the first day of registration for the Spring 2010 semester, McHenry County College experienced record demand. By 6:30 p.m., 2,650 students had already registered for the Spring semester, representing more than one-third of currently enrolled students.

McHenry County College, in conjunction with MCC's Kids and College program, will be offering ACT Prep classes from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on November 7, 14, 21 and December 5 in E121 at the college, 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14, Crystal Lake.

McHenry County College Shah Center will offer OSHA 10-Hr for Construction training rom 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. November 2 and November 4. This course covers regulations covered by Standard 29 CFR 1926 in the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA). The successful completion of this course will assist firms in meeting the Construction Industry Standards established by OSHA. Upon completion, attendees will receive a certificate of completion, plus the official wallet card issued by OSHA. Course fee is $159.

McHenry County College Shah Center is now an official Certiport Testing Center. Certiport offers individuals the opportunity to obtain marketable credentials in business applications from Microsoft® and Adobe®. Certiport certifications are globally recognized, professional credentials. The Shah Center also offers training courses designed to prepare participants for certification testing.

McHenry County College Shah Center now provides training in the Microsoft Expression Web application. The upcoming course is scheduled from 5-9 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4 and Thursday, November 5. Microsoft Expression Web makes it possible for the beginner to create visually pleasing standards-based web sites. This course is ideal for those who wish to design, create and publish their own web site. Microsoft Expressions Web puts professional web design tools within reach of every business and organization. Course fee is $155.

To guide high school juniors and seniors on their journey into college, students and their parents are invited to MCC Night 2009 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 4 at McHenry County College in the Commons area and adjacent hallways in Building A.

Help others live a clutter-free life by becoming a professional organizer. McHenry County College's Professional Education Programs will offer a Professional Organizer class from 6-9 p.m. November 2 to November 11 on Monday and Wednesday evenings at the Shah Center, 4100 W. Shamrock Lane, McHenry. If you have a knack for organizing and enjoy working with people, then becoming a professional organizer could be your new career. The $215 fee includes all course materials.

Thinking about returning to college? Chase your fears away with McHenry County College's "Getting Started" seminars, which aim to help older students feel at ease about taking college classes after being out of high school for several years or decades.

McHenry County College will host its 25th Annual Craft Fair from 10-4 p.m. on Sunday, October 25 in the Commons Area in Building B at MCC, located at 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14, Crystal Lake. The event will feature homemade items from more than 100 crafters. Admission is $2 per person, which enters each attendee into a prize drawing.

Dancing is more popular than ever thanks to television shows like "Dancing with the Stars." Now, everyone can learn some of those elegant steps with McHenry County College's ballroom dance classes. Ballroom Dance is available for couples on Friday evenings from 7-8 p.m. or from 8-9 p.m. Intermediate Ballroom dance features new dance steps for couples on Fridays from 9-10 p.m.

Express your creativity with fun and accessible art classes at McHenry County College. MCC's Continuing Education Department is offering the following art classes for artists at all levels this fall: The Beauty of Charcoal, Portrait Drawing, I Can Draw!, Oil Pastel Painting, and Color My World.

Receive tips on decorating your home for fall and winter holidays at McHenry County College's annual Home for the Holidays workshop from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, October 22 in the MCC Conference Center. The event will feature MCC floral design instructors and students covering basic floral design, silk and dry designs, and other how-to tips to make your home dazzle this holiday season.

Join McHenry County College's Sensational Trips and Tours program on Sunday, December 6 for an unforgettable musical "Here's Love," based on the beloved Christmas movie "Miracle on 34th Street." A motor coach leaves MCC at 9 a.m. and returns at 5:30 p.m. The $92 fee includes a delicious brunch at the Fireside Theatre. Deadline to register is October 26.

All of us can be green pioneers and the Bioneers at McHenry County College Symposium will provide information everyone can use to restore our world from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, November 7 in the college conference center and commons area in Building B, 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14 in Crystal Lake. This event will feature regional experts on local water quality issues, eating better and buying foods locally, building the green economy, energy savings and climate change.

Today's highly competitive environment needs highly capable leaders who can build trust and successfully implement change. Learn how to re-charge your leadership skills with a Development Dimensions International (DDI) Operational Leadership Series from 1 to 5 p.m. beginning October 27 through December 1 at the McHenry County College Shah Center, 4100 W. Shamrock Lane, McHenry. This series is designed for experienced leaders charged with executing strategy and driving work group performance. Individual modules are $155 and the full series fee is $790.

Make your in-house training programs more effective with Training Within Industry (TWI), an eight-session "train-the-trainer" series offered by McHenry County College Shah Center. The next session is scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. beginning October 27 through December 15. This program will provide individuals designated as internal trainers in industry the materials, methodology, and processes needed to create more effective and efficient training programs. The series fee is $1,399.

McHenry County College will hold an Open House with Eagle Training Services, Inc. from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on October 17 in the campus parking lot at the corner of Route 14 and Lucas Road. Explore our four-week training program toward the start of a new profession. Those interested in training to become truck drivers will receive information about a Secretary of State certified CDL training program with four-week classes offered every month. Recruiters will be on site to recruit potential drivers and radio station Star 105.5 will broadcast live from 2 to 4 p.m.

To combat address family violence in our community, McHenry County College will host "Stalking: Developing a Coordinated Multi-Disciplinary Community Approach," a symposium open to the public and beneficial for law enforcement, judicial, health care, social workers, and victim advocate professionals, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, October 28 in the MCC Conference Center.

The Second Sunday Concert Series at McHenry County College begins its 2009-2010 season at 3 p.m. on October 11 featuring Chicago Brass Band Players. The concert will be held in the MCC Conference Center, 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14, Crystal Lake. 2003, 2005 and 2006 at the North American Brass Band Association (NABBA) and was runner-up in 2004. This concert is free and open to the public. A reception with light refreshments will follow.

Explore Oriental techniques to enhance your body, mind and spirit with Reiki or Chi Kung or learn how to unleash tension with a "Power of Now" class, all offered by McHenry County College's Continuing Education Department. The first class is Reiki I and will meet on Sunday, October 11.

The Illinois Small Business Development Center at McHenry County College announces several classes are still available throughout October that offer relevant information for today's marketplace. Some classes include: How To Develop a Business Plan, Cash Flow Analysis, Legal Concerns and Marketing bootcamp. All classes are held at the Shah Center, located at 4100 W. Shamrock Lane in McHenry, near Centegra Hospital.

In observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, all are welcome to Join McHenry County College and the 22nd Judicial Circuit Family Violence Coordinating Council at a Candlelight Vigil at 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 14 on the Woodstock Square in downtown Woodstock. The vigil will be held in rain or shine. Anyone is welcome to show their support of Domestic Violence Awareness efforts in McHenry County. The purpose of the event is to remember those who have been hurt by domestic abuse, including survivors and family members and call attention to the devastation that domestic abuse can cause individuals, their families, and friends. This event will feature entertainment by Just Duet and Julie Gibson.

The Illinois Small Business Development Center at McHenry County College is offering opportunities and assistance to small businesses, including classes that offer relevant information in today's marketplace. Upcoming classes include Marketing in the Current Economy, Starting a Business in Illinois, and Social Networking.

Small business owners can get timely information on tax law changes at a comprehensive tax seminar from 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, October 20, offered by the Illinois Small Business Development Center (ISBDC) at McHenry County College. The workshop will be held at the Shah Center, 4100 W. Shamrock Lane in McHenry, near Centegra Hospital. Workshop fee is $45.

Come see what the future holds for your education at College Fair 2009 from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 8 at McHenry County College, located at 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14, Crystal Lake. High school juniors and seniors and their parents, college students who are interested in transferring, and adults returning to college are welcome to meet with more than 100 college admission representatives from schools around the state and country. The event is free of charge.
