NonCredit Photography Classes Available at MCC

McHenry County College's Continuing Education Department is offering photography classes, including Photoshop training, basic digital photography and classes to help prepare the photography enthusiast improve his or her skills.

The following classes are available:

Photoshop Elements: Most digital photography can benefit from some simple processing. This class provides a hands-on opportunity to learn the tools amateur photographers need to move to the next level in their photography. Students need to bring their laptop to load trial versions of the Photoshop program if they don’t already have one. Class takes place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, June 12 through 26 in Room A101. Cost is $129.

Nik Photo Editing Software: Bring your laptop and learn how to make more professional and selective edits quickly. Nik software increases the "wow" factor on images and makes them stand out. Good images are truly stunning after using the techniques from this class. Class members will download trial versions of the software onto their laptop in class and receive simple instructions for advanced editing techniques. Experience with Photoshop or Photoshop Elements is desired. Class takes place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, July 7 and 14 in Room A102. Cost is $99. Use course ID: NPH S26 007 when registering.      

Basic Digital Photography: This action-packed class will show you how to create and care for interesting digital photo. Students will learn the basics of digital photography, elements of exposure control, photographing people, close-up, action and low-light photography. How to share images and store photos will also be covered. Bring your own camera. Class takes place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, July 10 through 24 in Room A103. Use course ID: NPH S13 007 when registering. Cost is $109.

Old Threshers Reunion: An ideal trip for the whole family, the Thresher's Reunion in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, has multiple working exhibits of how life used to be. Participants can drive a tractor, go to a horse pull, visit a one-room schoolhouse, and see all the elements of a simpler time. These large-boiler, old-style tractors are the featured attraction. Price includes transportation from Rock Valley College, two nights lodging, and admission to the grounds, and two breakfasts. Participants will be on their own for lunch and dinner. This safari will include optional educational presentations. The Adventure Safari Network will contact trip participants one week prior with trip details. This trip satisfies an elective for the Photography Certificate of Completion Program. This photo safari trip takes place Aug. 29 to 31. Times will be announced. Cost is $490 for single occupancy, $390 for double occupancy. Children age 16 or younger staying with an adult is $95.
