McHenry County College's Continuing Education Department is offering fishing classes for everyone to enjoy this spring. Sign up with a friend, spouse or child and learn a new hobby to create memories for a lifetime.
The following classes are available:
Introduction to Fly Fishing: A beginner's course for anyone interested in fly fishing. Students will learn about terminology, equipment for different species and situations, flies and how to fish them, plus different fishing techniques and casts. Everyone will practice the basic forward cast. Students not wishing to actually catch fish during the practice session may want to practice one of the more advanced casts the instructor will demonstrate. Students wishing to catch fish will need a valid Illinois license. All equipment will be provided, but students are welcome to bring their own fly rod setup to class. Class takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 31 in Room A102. Cost is $36. Use course ID: NRE S36 005 when registering.
Advanced Fly Fishing: Individuals who have mastered the basic forward cast to the extent of being able to consistently cast at least 30 feet are ready for this class. The class will cover the balanced equipment selection in much greater detail than the introductory course. One-on-one instruction will be provided on the following casts: pile, roll, steeple, tuck, and curve casts, as well as the double haul. Two-handed spey casting techniques will be demonstrated. All equipment will be provided, but students are welcome to bring their own fly rod setup to class. Students wishing to actually catch fish during the practice session must have a valid Illinois license. Class takes place from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 31 in Room A102. Cost is $27. Use course ID: NRE S08 005 when registering.
