McHenry County College to Host Area's First CNA Convention

[Friday, April 18, 2014]

Area Certified Nurse Assistants are invited to attend a CNA Convention at McHenry County College (MCC) from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7 at the MCC Shah Center, 4100 W. Shamrock Lane in McHenry.

This is the first time that a CNA Convention is hosted in McHenry County and will feature a day packed with informative topics presented by area physicians and nurses on patient care, especially the elderly. Topics include: foot and ankle amputations, prosthetics and orthotics for feet, restorative nursing, patient-centered care, cardiac patients, intake and output review, frailty and elder abuse. Another highlight is a fashion show featuring new uniforms from Today’s Uniforms in Crystal Lake, along with prize giveaways.

"CNAs are important members of the health care team and their role is a priority to the success of the team," said Cheryl Ziszik, nurse assistant education instructor at MCC. "It is imperative that CNAs are competent and knowledgeable when caring for individuals that have value and deserve respect. This convention fosters collaboration and networking, along with professional and personal development."

The event features speakers from the community, including Dr. Samuleson, of McHenry County Orthopedics, Gil Gulbrandson of Gulbrandson Orthotics and Prosthetics and Marsha Boncosky of Senior Services, Associates, Inc., Joyce Steber, RN, Education Coordinator for Southern Illinois University-Carbondale Nurse Aide Testing; and Nurse Assistant Education faculty members at MCC.

"We've pulled together people from all areas of health care, to provide resources and support to very important CNAs," Ziszik said.

The convention is free and open to CNA professionals. Lunch is included and attendees can earn continuing education units. Registration is required by calling the MCC Registration Office at (815) 455-8588. Refer to course ID: UHL U13-001. If you register and are unable to attend, please call to withdraw so other CNA's can attend.
