Create appealing cakes and cupcakes that will impress your friends and family with classes offered by McHenry County College's Continuing Education Department.
The following classes are available:
Cake Decorating I: Melody Stanko, a professional cake decorator for over 14 years, will teach the basics of cake decorating. She will explain the equipment, supplies, types of frosting and how to prepare the best frosting. Includes hands-on experience with a wide variety of decorating technique, including shells, rosettes, borders, basket weaving, piping and much more. Plan to spend approximately $25 for supplies, which will be discussed at the first class. Class takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21 through March 21 in Room D158. Cost is $75. Cake Decorating II: This five-week course will start with a review of beginning skills, then will concentrate on decorating skills that involve more advanced borders, drapes on the sides, and many types of flowers, including pansies, daisies, mums and daffodils. New tubes and their uses will be demonstrated. Students will use different types of icing such as fondant and royal to make fancier decorations. Class will culminate in a demonstration of a completed tiered wedding cake. Bring a batch of butter cream icing and basic decorating supplies to the first night of class to start hands-on right away. Note: Students must have completed Cake Decorating I before attending this class. Plan to spend approximately $15 for supplies, which will be discussed at the first class. Class takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 11 through May 9 in Room D158. Cost is $75. Use course ID: NCU S02 005 when registering.
Cupcake Temptations: Delightfully decorated cupcakes are still all the rage in desserts and this class will show easy ways to decorate them. A list of all supplies will be sent to students before class so everyone can be ready to start. Beginning cake-decorating skills are helpful, but are not a requirement. This class is offered from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 4 in Room D158. Cost is $25. Use course ID: NCU S71 004 when registering.
