MCC Men's Basketball Team Wins 86-73 in Skyway Conference game

[Tuesday, February 11, 2014]

In Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference play, the McHenry County College Scots men’s basketball team broke the seven game Prairie State College Pioneers winning streak with an 86-73 win, at home in Crystal Lake. The win was the second on the season in ISCC play for MCC.

The Scots were led by two freshmen, Nick Malonga and Demarcus Vines. Malonga, a forward, poured in 27 points, for the underdog Scots, before fouling out with four minutes remaining, while cat-quick point guard Vines slashed and dashed his way to 26 points. Each player recorded two threes. MCC Sophomore post player Torin Washington added 11 points and was a major force on the defensive boards.

MCC trailed at halftime 42-40 but came out strong to start the second half, quickly building a lead and stealing momentum. Throughout the half and down the stretch the Scots were able to maintain an 8 – 12 point lead to seal the victory, using paced-play and making good use of the clock, while also scoring to maintain the lead. Danny Glick added nine points for the home team before he fouled out, while sophomore sharpshooter Jeff Nichols poured in eight, including two threes, for the Scots.

In the women’s game, the PSC Pioneers outdueled MCC, in a defensive struggle, 48-30.

The next home ISC Conference games for the MCC men and women will be on February 13, 15 and 20 versus Oakton, Elgin and Lake County, respectively. The Feb 20 home games are billed as Purple Pride Night and will feature Sophomore Recognition ceremonies prior to both the women’s and men's games at 5:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. respectively.
