Keep your hands busy inside this winter with sewing and quilting classes offered by the McHenry County College Continuing Education Department.
The following classes are available:
Beginning Sewing: Learn basic sewing skills while making three simple projects: a set of pillowcases that feature straight stitching and French seams, a split rail fence pillow with simple quilt-piecing techniques, and a simple drawstring bag with a lining. Students will purchase supplies at the first class. Costs will vary depending on fabric selection, but should not exceed $40 in addition to the course fee. Those who have a portable sewing machine should bring it to class. Class takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13 through March 20 at Sewing Concepts in Woodstock. Cost is $85. Use course ID: NCF S03 003 when registering.
Quilting For Beginners: This class is designed especially for the beginning quilter. Each lesson will take you step-by-step throughout the quilt making process as you create a lovely 36-inch square Rail Fence quilt. Learn how to read a pattern, use a rotary cutter and piece accurate seams. You'll make a quilt sandwich and learn to do some simple machine quilting. If you do your homework, you’ll have a completed quilt at the end of the four week class. A supply list will be mailed one week before class. Students must bring their own sewing machine. Class takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26 through March 19 in Room E121. Cost is $69. Use course ID: NCF S35 003 when registering.
Sweet Blooms Table Topper: Add a splash of color to your table with this unique shaped 35-inch quilted topper. It's the perfect spring or summer accent and works well on all tables whether round, square or rectangle. It involves simple machine piecing and a little machine appliqué. A supply list will be sent one week before class. Students must bring their own sewing machine. Class takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 2-16 in Room E121. Cost is $59.
