Special Circumstance Information for 2009/10 FAFSA
If the income you reported on your 2009/10 FAFSA will be significantly less in 2009 than in 2008 please see below
Per Federal Regulations, these situations do not allow for financial aid adjustment:
- Voluntarily decreasing work hours to attend college
- Resigning or leaving job voluntarily
- Extensive credit card debt
- Extensive mortgage debt
Situations that may allow for financial aid adjustment:
- Involuntary loss of employment
- Loss of Social Security benefits in 2009
- Loss of Child Support in 2009
- Death of a parent during 2009 (dependent student)
- Death of a spouse during 2009 (independent student)
- Medical expenses paid in 2008 which significantly exceed 11% of 2008 adjusted gross income on your federal income tax
If you feel your situation warrants an adjustment based on the criteria above, please submit the following:
- STUDENT 2008 Federal and State signed tax forms
- PARENT 2008 Federal and State signed tax forms (if student is under 24 years of age)
- Documentation to back up all figures and dates. If submitting unemployment documentation, you must submit the Claimant Wage Information Sheet from the unemployment office that includes the dates and maximum benefit amount received.
