MA with Teacher Certification – Elementary, North Park University

Program at a glance:

• The MATC Program is in session on the MCC campus. Register through North Park University.
• The MATC Program combines teacher certification for the elementary grades (K-9) with a Master's degree in Education - Teacher Leadership.
• The program can be completed in 3 years.
• Teacher Certification (grades K-9) can be completed in 2 years.
• The 3 field experiences prepare students for a broad range of grade levels and schools.
• The program is conducted in the cohort model.
• Classes meet one night a week: Wednesdays, 6 to 9:30 p.m. (There are exceptions)
• Tuition of $345 per credit hour (subject to change).

Admission Requirements:

1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited, state recognized institution
2. Grade point average of 2.75 (on a 4-point scale) overall and a 3.0 in the major
3. Completed application, including:
   • Official transcripts from all college and universities attended
   • Three recommendations (forms provided)
   • Completed application form, with personal essay
   • Application fee
4. A teaching major or concentration in a liberal arts content field (currently 28 semester hours are required)
5. Score on the Miller Analogies Test OR the Graduate Record Examination
6. Passing score on the ISBE Basic Skills Test

Health requirements:

• Complete immunization record - up-to-date measles, mumps, rubella, and Tetanus
• TB test approved by physician within 6 months of enrollment

Prerequisite courses:

• Survey of Exceptional Children and Practicum A.
  • Exceptional Child will be offered by McHenry County College in the Spring, Summer and Autumn. Those accepted into the cohort will receive information about Practicum A which will be offered as a non-credit pass or fail MCC course. Please contact Marie V.
