MA with Teacher Certification – Elementary, North Park University
Program at a glance:
- The MATC Program
is in session on the MCC campus.
Register through North Park University.
- The MATC Program combines teacher certification for the elementary grades (K-9)
with a Master's degree in education.
- The teacher's certificate program can be completed in two years and then there are only four more classes to complete the Master degree in education.
- The three field experiences prepare you for a broad range of grade levels and schools.
- The program is conducted in the cohort model.
- Classes meet on Wednesdays from 6 to 9:15 p.m. except in the summer session when you meet two nights a week for only four weeks.
- Tuition is $455 per credit hour. The certification is 33 credits and the graduate degree is 43 credit hours.
Admission Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited, state-recognized institution
- Grade point average of 3.00 (on a 4-point scale) overall and a 3.0 in your major
- Completed application, including:
- Official transcripts from all college and universities attended
- Three recommendations (forms provided)
- Completed application form, with personal essay
- Application fee
- A teaching major or concentration in a liberal arts content field
(currently 28 semester hours are required)
- If you have a GPA below a 3.0, but have other exceptional application materials, you could apply but will also be required to take either the Miller Analogies
Test OR the Graduate Record Examination. No minimum score is required.
- Passing scores on the ISBE Basic Skills Test.
Health requirements once in the program:
- Complete immunization record - up-to-date measles, mumps, rubella,
and tetanus
- TB test approved by physician within six months of enrollment
