The GED examination preparation course covers English (grammar and fundamentals of written English); reading techniques for comprehension, evaluation and application interpretations; and mathematics (problem solving, basic math review, geometry and algebra).
The subject matter that is reviewed in class depends upon the skills and needs of each student. Instruction is paced by the student. While a few students complete their goals in five weeks, other students require additional time to prepare for the GED exam. Students may re-enroll in classes until the GED examination is successfully completed. If a student is not reading at a 9th grade level, they will be enrolled in a reading class and instructed in pre-GED skills. The suggested book can be purchased at the MCC Bookstore for about $20.00.
You can now prepare for the GED online! If you are a self-starter, have good reading skills and are comfortable using computers, you can succeed in a GED-i class.
GED-i online classes are offered at no cost to residents. Placement into GED-i classes requires an 11th grade or higher reading level, which is determined through testing at a registration session. Class will start in February.
