Steve Ryan, Head Coach

Coach Ryan is in his sixth year as men’s head basketball coach at MCC. In his previous five seasons, he has collected 85 victories and guided his Fighting Scots to recognition both locally and nationally. Under his guidance, MCC was the only school to achieve back-to-back appearances in the NJCAA Region IV District Championship game in 2005 and 2006, and his team also earned a national ranking of #10 during the 2005-2006 season.

The most successful men’s basketball coach in school history, Ryan’s past three seasons have been particularly successful. His teams have averaged 20 wins per season, and he is expected to reach an impressive 100-win mark during the current season. In 2005-2006, Ryan’s team set a school record with 26 wins, and he also developed an NJCAA All-American forward, Melvin Beasley. Ryan has seen several of his former players continue on to play at four-year schools.

Prior to coaching at MCC, Ryan served as the men’s assistant varsity basketball coach at Woodstock High School from 1997-2000. He received his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Western Illinois University in 1997 and his master’s degree in learning and discipline from Saint Xavier University in 2001. Ryan is currently employed as a physical education teacher at Mary Enders Elementary School in Woodstock. He and his wife Chris have two children and live in Algonquin.
