Head Coach Karl Smith

Coach Karl Smith began his inaugural season as Head Coach of the MCC Men's Soccer team in 1998, after being the assistant coach the four previous seasons. He was named ISCC Coach of the Year in 2001, 2002 and 2006. In 2001 and 2002 Smith was named NJCAA Region IV Coach of the Year. The 2002 squad was selected as the #14 team in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and Adidas.

Smith's teams played conference championships in 2001, 2002 and 2006. The Scots reached the NJCAA Region IV Championship Game in 2001, 2005, and 2006. In the 2002 and 2003 seasons Chris Loustaunau and Rick Lenhardt were selected First Team All-Region in men's soccer Division I and were named NJCAA All-Americans.

Smith's first college head coaching job was at MCC. He became the director of coaching with Chicago Magic North, created by the merger of Chicago Magic and COPA FC. COPA FC was a youth soccer organization he created in 1999. Smith is currently working with Sockers FC Chicago, a nationally renowed youth soccer organization.

Smith studied at MCC in the horticulture department and later worked in the golf course industry for 13 years. Now his professional life is largely comprised of soccer-related involvements. Smith is married and has three boys, Josh, Cully and Reagan.

Assistant Coach Jim Dzialo

Jim Dzialo became the assistant coach for MCC's men's soccer team in 2010. Dzialo was the boys' and girls' soccer coach at Rockford Boylan High School, IL, taking the boys' soccer team to the state tournament three straight seasons from 1997-99, including a second-place finish in 1998. He took over the Jacobs High School boys' program in Algonquin, IL, in 2000 and coached through 2009 where his team won a sectional title in 2000 and regional titles in 2007 and 2008.

Dzialo has coached with MCC head coach Karl Smith in the COPA and Chicago Magic Soccer Clubs. Dzialo played soccer at Lewis University and he earned his Master's Degree from Loyola University. He teaches at Jacobs High School.

Assistant Coach: Rudy Cleveland

Rudy Cleveland played at MCC in 2006 when the Scots went 15-4-1 before losing in the NJCAA Region IV finals. Cleveland took up coaching full-time after the 2006 season. He works for Soccer FC based in Schaumburg, IL and previously worked with the Chicago Magic Soccer Club. Cleveland has been an integral part of instructing at the MCC ScotStars summer youth sports camps.

Cleveland played soccer for four years at Prairie Ridge High School in Crystal Lake.
