Women's Softball Coach
Head Coach: Howie Bierman
Coach Howie Bierman began his McHenry County College tenure in 2002. Prior to coaching at MCC he was head coach for the Elgin Community College women’s softball team for several years where he had one Academic All-American and seven Academic All-Conference players.
He also coached at Barrington and Burlington High Schools. He was a part of the coaching staff for the 18 and under summer travel team, The Lake County Liberty and has been a Specialty Coach for Hitting and Pitching at Player’s Choice Academy in Huntley for many years.
Coach Bierman feels that with solid recruiting classes, if the girls work hard and if the pitching and defense is strong, the Scots should be competing favorably at the conference and regional levels, every year. Annual goals include winning the conference championship and making it to final four in the NJCAA regional. He tells his players to "work to the best of their ability and to achieve the goals that they set for themselves at the beginning of the year."
Coach Bierman is now semi-retired and lives in Elgin.
Assistant Coach: Jim Summaria
Assistant Coach Jim Summaria has been involved with softball for over three decades. First as a slow-pitch player and since 2000 coaching girls fastpitch. He started the girls travel program for the Algonquin Area Youth Organization (AAYO) by forming the Algonquin Aces in 2003. Coach Summaria also served as a board member for AAYO. The Aces program, at the time, had to end at the 16 and under age group in 2007 so Coach Summaria then joined the Crystal Lake Tidal Waves as an assistant coach and board member in charge of college recruiting, where he remains today.
Coach Summaria, who came highly recommended by head coach Howie Bierman, joined the MCC coaching staff in 2009-2010. He assists with the MCC ScotStars youth softball camp in the summer and he has coached over 35 youth sports teams including baseball, soccer and basketball. His many coaching experiences are expected to contribute greatly to the MCC Scots softball program along with his area connections helping to enhance successful recruiting.
Coach Summaria has been a professional photographer since 1973. His daughter Melissa is a university student who plays intercollegiate softball, while son Mike also attends college. Coach Summaria and his wife Sheila are residents of Algonquin.

Daryle “Butch” Kunde has a plethora of lifelong sporting experiences having played and/or coached baseball and/or softball over five decades. His daughter Hallisey, a very accomplished softball player, played on those teams. Coach Kunde joined the Lady Scots program, under head coach Howie Bierman, and will be accompanied on the team by his daughter.
