Associate of Science
David Hill. For the first time, I realized an appreciation for history. He weaved his sense of humor into every lesson.
I attended here as the first recipient of the MCC Athletic Scholarship. I had been recruited to play at University of Illinois, Chicago, but just couldn’t justify the extra expenses and the safety concerns at that time. MCC gave me the opportunity to continue with the activities I enjoyed while I figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up!
Truly, MCC continues to shape both my life and my career. While my A.S. aspirations were in a health science background, I have, from time to time, come back to study computer programming, accounting and, finally, real estate. My background lends me to a well-rounded approach to business. And, as my career path has evolved, MCC is there at every intersection. Each time I took a left turn, there was a course available to keep me on track. Not every turn took me in the right direction, but I can honestly say that I am a better person for being able to try different areas, in a local setting, without disturbing my family and economic status.
I loved finishing my degree at UIC, but at 18 years old, I wasn’t ready to leave the area. MCC provided the perfect forum for continuing the activities that I enjoyed, while adjusting to the new freedom that college provides. I think students will get out of their experience at MCC exactly what they put into it. The instructors have been top notch, the friendships that I have formed have been life-long, and now that my career is in a finely-tuned status, I enjoy giving back time and money to the community and the college that have helped to make me who I am today.
